OMG how adorable! I had one of these little lovelies a while back. I worked in a pet shop and always ended up bringing home all the little oddities that couldn't be sold. This particular little hamster had had one ear bitten off by her siblings. At the time they were called Russian Dwarf Hamsters, so my dad used to call her Ivan Earoff. Her real name was Button. And she was adorable.
Aw thanks, she was adorable. Don't think I could ever work in a pet shop again though. Didn't like the way it was all sell-sell-sell. Sometimes I wasn't happy about the people who I was selling the animals to.
I just knew sometimes that I was condemning the animal to a poor existence, but I couldn't justify saying 'no you can't have this animal' on just the appearance of the customer. Management didn't care anyway. Anyway, I'll climb down off my soapbox now!
That sounds pretty hard and frustrating. When I got my rats cupcake and Jasmine, I wasn't even planning on getting a rat. They could have been sold to someone else, but the girl in the shop refused when she heard that he wanted to feed them to his pet snake. When I was leaving the shop I overheard him asking his friend to go in and buy them and next thing I knew I was heading home on the bus with them. Luckily my Mum didn't freak out when I phoned her to let her know they were on their way home with me and when she saw them both she just fell in love with them both! [link]
He looked like a total creep and so did his friends. I find the idea of feeding live animals to snakes horrible and to make it worse he wanted to film his snake eating and put on youtube. So I was really glad I was able to save them both.
Sadly I no longer have little Jasmine as she passed away. But I still have Cupcake who will be fours years old soon
